“He got too much heat. I’m told he’s going to announce we’re not going to have to wear masks anymore and it’s just criminal that he waited this long,” said Republican Governor Candidate, Tom Heck.

Governor Steve Sisolak announced plans to update Nevadan’s on COVID-19, hospitalization rates, and testing kits.

While the governor didn’t mention the mask mandate in a press release, many believe and hope he drops it as other states lift theirs.

“Of course he is. Gavin Newsom is lifting it so now Steve Sisolak,” said Republican Governor Candidate, Joey Gilbert.

Governor Sisolak’s republican opponents are using the mask mandate implemented in July 2021 against him.

“He got too much heat. I’m told he’s going to announce we’re not going to have to wear masks anymore and it’s just criminal that he waited this long,” said Republican Governor Candidate, Tom Heck.

Sisolak said the mandate would be lifted once the two-week average of new cases dropped below 50 per 100,000 and the test positivity rate was below 5%.

We’re not even close to those benchmarks. This week, the test positivity rate for Nevada was 25.3% and the two-week average of new cases is 192 per 100,000 people.

“From my perspective, I think we missed the boat in our state. I think we kept masks way too long. I think we kept requirements way too long and that’s unfortunate because kids couldn’t go to school, people couldn’t go to church,” said Republican Governor Candidate, Guy Nohra.

Nevada U.S Senator, Catherine Cortez Masto believes Sisolak has handled the pandemic well.

“Listening to the doctors, the experts, everybody working together, the business community, everybody coming together to ensure that we are making our families individuals and workers people safe. And we have the ability now to remove the mask mandate because it’s safe to do so then I support the governor’s decision,” said Cortez Masto.
